This 1971 Mercedes-Benz 280SL was imported to the US in 1983 and reportedly remained with its first US owner until 2021, when it was acquired by the current owner. The car is powered by a 2.8-liter inline-six paired with a four-speed automatic transmission and is finished in White over Cognac leather upholstery. Equipment includes a brown convertible top, 14″ steel wheels with painted covers, power steering, and four-wheel disc brakes. The engine was rebuilt in November 1996, the transmission was rebuilt in June 2005, and a major brake system overhaul was performed in June 2024. This W113 “Pagoda” shows 98k kilometers (~61k miles) and is now offered on dealer consignment in Twinsburg, Ohio, with an owner’s manual, service records, and a clean Ohio title.
The W113 SL was designed by Friedrich Geiger, Béla Barényi, and Paul Bracq and was introduced at the 1963 Geneva Motor Show. This example is finished in White (050) and features a white Pagoda hardtop and European-specification headlights. The brown soft top was installed in 2016.
The 14″ steel wheels wear covers with painted centers and are mounted with 185-series Michelin MXV tires. The car is equipped with power steering and a four-wheel independent suspension. Stopping power is provided by power-assisted four-wheel disc brakes, and an overhaul of the braking system was reportedly performed in June 2024 at a cost of over $10,000.
The cabin houses bucket seats upholstered in Cognac leather that extends to the door panels. Wood trim accents the dashboard, and additional appointments include an analog clock, a floor-mounted gear shifter, and a Becker Europa radio.
The two-spoke steering wheel features a chrome horn ring and frames a 220-km/h speedometer, a tachometer with a 6,500-rpm redline, and gauges for fuel level, oil pressure, and coolant temperature. The five-digit odometer shows approximately 98k kilometers (~61k miles), approximately 600 of which were added under current ownership.
The 2.8-liter M130 inline-six was factory equipped with Bosch fuel injection and was rated at 180 horsepower and 193 lb-ft of torque when new. The engine was rebuilt in November 1996. The four-speed automatic transmission was rebuilt in June 2005.
